The Sail in Bremerhaven!

Bremerhaven is located at the border to the Northsea and forms a part of the federal state Bremen.
It is not only famous for being one of the biggest sea ports in Europe, it also offers a lot to see for tourists.

During our visit last summer, Yong and me also had the chance to visit the “Sail”, a big show where sail ships from all over the world are presented to public!

Sail 2015
During the sail 2015 the whole port of the city has been lined with different ships from all over the world.

Usually you can go on board of almost all ships for free, only some of them ask for an entrance fee.

We visited the “Staatsraad Lehmkuhl”, a Norwegian ship from Bergen.

Visiting the Sail is a great experience for everybody who is interested in Sailships, since it is one of the few chances where you can see so many sailing ships up close.

Entrance to the harbor is free but it only takes place every 5 years in summer.

If you are not so lucky to be here at that time, we recommend checking out the Seute Deern and the maritime Museum. For a small entrance fee you can check out many other small ships at any time.

Klimahaus
The Klimahaus in Bremerhaven focuses – like a lot of other sights in Bremerhaven – on traveling.

The main exhibition represents a trip around the world on the 8th longitude, from Germany, via Switzerland through Italy and many African countries to the Antarctica and then back through the Pacific ocean, through Alaska and then back to Germany.

The exhibition is not only trying to show the places themselves, it’s also making it more vivid by simulating the climate conditions in the regions.

Zoo am Meer
Close to the harbor and the Klimahaus you can find the Zoo of Bremerhaven.

As the German name implies it is focusing on animals which are close to the sea such as Penguins, otters, seals and also polarbears.

My favourite animals are penguins ... despite the fact that this one looks quite stupid.

Schaufenster
The cuisine of Northern Germany is in many parts influenced by the close proximity to the north sea.
Many people like to eat fish and the northern harbors of Germany are the best places to get it.

The “Schaufenster” is the most popular fish market in Bremerhaven since many fish sellers are offering their products in the big building close to the harbor.

Our favourite shop is “Fiedlers Fischmarkt”, probably the best established seller in Bremerhaven.
Here you can not only supply yourself with fish for cooking at home but also eat some dishes in the restaurant right next to the shop.

We hope that you found our post about Bremerhaven helpful!
