12 Hours of Frankfurt!

Frankfurt is the financial centre of both Germany and the european union.
In this metropolis at the Main you can find headquarters of the ECB, many German banks and companies but also the one of the biggest air ports in Europe.
If you’re here for a transit or just for a short time, you might check out the following sights!

Cathedral of Frankfurt
The church tower of the cathedral is probably the best point to get a good view over Frankfurt.

It is located a little further from the banking centre and also other sights such as the “Römer” or the “Pauls Kirche” are visible from here.

Climbing a few hundred stairs will reward you with the best view over the city of Frankfurt!

Maintower
The Maintower is one of the highest building of Frankfurt, quite in the middle of the city.

Getting up here costs 6.50€ and it will offer you a great view over the whole city of Frankfurt. Obviously the perspective is different to the perspective from the previously mentioned church – still the Main tower is easier to reach and has an elevator.

Historical Centre
The historical centre of Frankfurt can be reached in about 30 minutes by foot from the train station.

Here, you can see the City hall, the “Römer”, but also the “Pauls Kirche” which is of historical importance.

The first meetings that lead to the unification of the Germany before the first world war have been held in the Pauls Kirche.

The “Palmen Garten” is a botanical garden close to the Metro station Westend. It’s the perfect place to calm down after experiencing the buzzling life of the city.

Zeil
The Zeil is probably the most important destination for travelers willing to go shopping. This street is one of the most famous shopping streets in Germany and offers many shops and shopping malls. The street is very close to the Station Hauptwache, therefore you can reach it easily.

Edit: Senckenberg Museum
During our stay Germany stay in 2016, we had a second chance to visit Frankfurt. Since we only visited the Senckenberg Museum, I decided to put it into this guide as well instead of making a completely new post. Please consider though, that visiting the Senckenberg Museum takes about 2 hours and would therefore only fit into the “12 hours of Frankfurt”.

The Senckenberg Museum is home to one of the biggest and oldest collection of prehistoric animals in the world. Next to that there are also other animals, still alive today, that you can see upclose here.
